The Rules - 2003 Season

Welcome!

Imagine owning your own dream Formula 1 team, with the best cars, and the best drivers. Well here you can! Also you can pick the worse team possible, and enter a team that tries to score the least amount of points!

So I’ve been generous, I’ve given you 36 million pounds to buy your own team. The best drivers and teams cost a lot of money and the not so good drivers and teams, cost a lot less!

When picking your team on the entry form, you must choose two different drivers and two different teams as we don’t have two Michael Schumacher’s available, and also make sure you stay within you 36 million pound budget!

Scoring

How do you score? Its all based on the real qualifying and race results!

First of all, your drivers and teams must finish the race (As classified by the FIA) in order to obtain any points at all.

With your teams you have selected, it is still based on the same scoring system, except only the highest finishing car gets any points.

If your team does well enough, your team may get a place on the Fantasy Formula 1 Podium, or if you do really badly...Well you can find out!

Race points

Depending on where your car finishes, you get the following amount of points. It’s the same scoring system as used by the FIA, as set in 2003.

1st 10 points
2nd 8 points
3rd 6 points
4th 5 points
5th 4 points
6th 3 points
7th 2 points
8th 1 point
Any other position ZERO points!

Qualifying points

This is a new rule for 2003. It is based on the difference in the qualifying positions set on the Friday and Saturday. You get 1 point per position gained if your driver or team improves it's position on Friday's qualifying time. If there is no change in position from the qualifying then you score zero points. However if you driver or team goes down the grid you lose 1 point for every position dropped. Eg,

Your car on Friday sets the 5th fastest time and on Saturday it sets the 2nd fastest time. You gain 3 qualifying points.
Your car on Friday sets the 5th fastest time and on Saturday it sets the 8th fastest time. You lose 3 qualifying points.
Your car on Friday sets the 5th fastest time and on Saturday it sets the 5th fastest time. You do not lose or gain any qualifying points.

Improvement points.

You get one extra point for each position you team or driver moves up the grid. So if your car starts 5th and finishes 2nd, you get a extra 3 points. But if you go back down the grid, (ie if you start in 2nd and finish 5th) you don’t get any points, and nor do you lose any.

Fastest Lap.

If your driver or team has the fastest lap of the race, you score a 1 extra point.

Starting on pole position.

If your driver or team qualifies to start on pole position of the race, you score a 1 extra point.

Hatrick points

If one of your drivers or teams starts off on Pole position, has the fastest lap of the race, and wins the race, you score 3 extra points!

Disqualification

If any of your drivers just happens to get disqualified by the FIA for any reason, you lose 5 points! If one of your cars in one your teams get disqualified, you will also lose 5 points, however if both of your cars in one of your teams gets disqualified, you lose 10 points.

What are all these leagues?

You can choose a league here you battle it out with other teams with similar backgrounds. If there are a group of you who want their own league to battle it out amongst yourselves, please drop me an email to pete@ff1gp.com and I’ll set it up for you.

How is the overall winner decided?

We need only one winner! If their is a draw, the overall winner will be decided on who predicts the score of the winner in the driver's championship the closest.

What's this win or lose?

Surely you don’t need me to explain this? Ok... I will. You can enter a team that goes out to win, or you can enter a team that just is left standing at the grid each week. Interestingly, last year quite few of the "Want to lose" teams scored more than the "Want to win" teams!

Any prizes?

Not yet - this year we are looking for sponsorship for the prizes Any idea’s for prize, or offers of sponsorship just email me at pete@ff1gp.com
